What happened during The Birmingham Campaign
The African Americans goal was to deliver their message in peace and committing non violence methods, while the whites still continued to discriminate against them. These were some of the many protests the blacks used to bring attention to integration efforts.
Sit-InsThe protesters would to go a lunch counter or town libraries. They went to lunch counters they knew they would not be served to at. They would sit there for hours on end while being called racist names such as, jungle bunny, sprocket, boy (no matter the age), coon, and porch monkey. Not to mention, whites would add to the chaos by spitting and pouring different types of beverages, foods, and other things on top of their heads. Since many diners would not serve to blacks, they would refuse to move from the main seats at the restaurants making it unable for whites to sit down and averaging no money for the business.

Whites respond violentlyNo matter the age of the blacks, they were beaten, sprayed with high pressure water hoses, and attacked by police dogs. In the Soviet papers they mocked Americans by saying "Is this the way you practice democracy?" The protesters were thrown against the store walls by the high pressured water. If a protester fell the officers would beat them to a pulp then take them to jail. 2,500 people were arrested May 4, and 2,000 if them were children.
